Wheatley Wins! Now Face the Wallaceburg Lakers
After upsetting the Essex 73s, the Wheatley Sharks are refocusing their sites on devouring the Wallaceburg Lakers. The two teams will face off in round two of the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League starting next week.
Marc Tremblay made 30 saves for Wheatley as they upset the Essex 73s in game seven of their opening round series with a decided 4-0 win. Josh Tremblay opened the scoring midway through the first and Wheatley never looked back.
Shawn Quigley and Andy Stevenson both scored unassisted shorthanded goals for the Sharks, while Jordan Carnevale added the other Wheatley goal assisted by Stevenson.
Earlier this week, Wheatley felt the shock wave of a 3.0 earthquake, now the team is looking to cause an even bigger shake up as they face Wallaceburg.
Shawn Quigley led the way for Wheatley scorers posting 13 points in the 7 game series and will be a driving force for the Sharks as they travel to Wallaceburg. During his 10 regular season games, Quigley tallied 18 points. Two years ago as a member of the Leamington Flyers, Quigley made a name for himself scoring more than a point per game at the Junior B level. Now, he is hoping to lift a championship trophy with the Wheatley Sharks, something the Wallaceburg Lakers will have something to say about.
During the regular season, the Wallaceburg Lakers swept their season series against Wheatley winning all 4 games, while outscoring Wheatley 17-7. The two teams didn’t meet however, down the stretch as the Wheatley Sharks began to heat up.
Game 1 is Wednesday evening in Wallaceburg at 7:30pm.
