NCAA Dream Ends One Goal Short for Houston
It wasn’t the storybook ending that Chatham’s Brad Houston was hoping for, with his 4-year NCAA career coming to an end Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota after a 4-3 loss to St. Norbert in the NCAA Division III Final.
“I would say, that it has been an experience that has surpassed any expectations and playing at Adrian College has truly been an experience of a lifetime,” said Houston when asked to sum up his time playing for the Adrian College Bulldogs.
Now, Houston, and the 15 other seniors on the Adrian College team will move on to careers and lives, whether in hockey or away from it.
Adrian College trailed 4 times in the NCAA final game. The first 3 times, they were able to tie the game; however, the Bulldogs ran out of time in the final period and were unable to tie the game to send it to overtime. Houston was held off the score sheet in the final game, but will leave Adrian as one of the school’s all-time leading scorers.
Only four years ago, Houston was a part of the first ever Adrian College Bulldogs men’s hockey team, now he’s a part of the first ever graduating class of a program that went from upstart, to one goal short of the best in the nation.
Now, Houston will be moving on from the program and his school to new challenges. Before Adrian’s Frozen Four win over Oswego State, Houston told the CKSN he was unsure of his future path and that he would wait until after their NCAA playoff run to think about what direction he would take, “whether I will move on in hockey after the year, I haven’t really thought about it yet.”
Read the CKSN later this week for a follow-up interview with Brad Houston.
Nice story Ian! Thanks for stopping by our site as well! Adrian may have a tougher road next season, but I think the foundation and coaching is in place to keep them as a solid contender.
