Overtime Needed Again, Wallaceburg Lakers Win to Even Series
For the third consecutive game, the Wallaceburg Lakers and Wheatley Sharks needed overtime to decide their battle, this time with Wallaceburg coming up victorious. Norm Leger scored the overtime winner midway through the first extra period for Wallaceburg assisted by Brendon Merrit and Tyson Isaac.
Leger also scored Wallaceburg’s first goal of the game. His first goal came at a critical point in the first period when it looked as though Wheatley was in control on home ice after Josh Tremblay scored the first goal of the game only a minute into the first period.
After Leger’s first period goal, the flood gates opened with 3-goals in roughly a minute and a half. Sam Jasmin scored for Wallaceburg, quickly followed by Shane Vienneau and Dustin Woelk answering back and giving the Wheatley Sharks a 3-2 lead heading into the second period.
Following a scoreless second period, Sam Jasmin scored his second goal of the game, both assisted by Jordan Belanger and Jordan Durston, tying the game and sending it to overtime where Leger put the game away for Wallaceburg.
The best of seven series is now tied at 2-2 with game 5 heading back to Wallaceburg Memorial Arena Saturday, March 12, at 7:30pm.
