Wheatley Sharks forward Shawn Quigley has been a dynamic force since joining the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League late this season. His dominance continued Monday night against the Wallaceburg Lakers as he scored two goals, including the overtime winner, and added an assist in a 3-2 Wheatley win.

The first period opened as a hard hitting, fast paced affair. Wallaceburg and Wheatley traded scoring chances until Shawn Lubbers slid one under Wheatley goaltender Marc Tremblay on a passing play from Tyler Lewis. Wallaceburg held their lead until midway through the second period when Quigley struck on the powerplay.

Only minutes later, Robert Jardine put Wheatley ahead off a feed from Quigley and Dylan Cosford. Immediately, Tyler Lewis tied the game at 2-2 with assists going to Norm Leger and Brendon Merritt.

The team’s took to the ice for overtime in front of an energetic Wallaceburg crowd of 600, but the extra frame lasted only 27 seconds as Quigly struck in and scored the overtime winner. Marc Tremblay made 43 saves for the win while Wallaceburg’s Matt Berglund stopped 37 in the loss.

Game four returns to Wheatley on Wednesday. Game time is 7:30pm. The Wheatley Sharks currently lead the best of seven series 2 games to 1.
