Wheatley Wins a Thriller on a Late Goal in Game Two
Wheatley, ON – They traded goals until the final minutes of the game, but the Wheatley Sharks managed to pull off a 4-3 game two win on home ice over the Belle River Canadiens.
Jordan Carnevale scored with under two minutes to play in the game causing the hometown crowd to erupt and flood the ice with fish – much like the Detroit Red Wings fans do with octopus – to celebrate their Wheatley Sharks goal. Carnevale also assisted on a late second period goal scored by Trevor Grieve.
The game was a hard hitting affair featured several vicious stick penalties and numerous questionable hits. The two slick skating teams traded shots from end to end with Wheatley’s Marc Tremblay getting the edge on Belle River goaltender Andrew Thompson. Thompson gave the puck away multiple times and was caught out of position leading to two of Wheatley’s goals including the game tying goal by Wheatley captain Andy Stevenson.
Dylan Cosford scored the other Wheatley Sharks goal while Shane Noel, Chris DiNatale, and Brett Hickey scored for the Belle River Canadiens.
Belle River’s third goal came on a 4-minute powerplay from a late second period spearing penalty against Wheatley. Belle River sunk themselves in the game with turnovers as three of Wheatley’s goals were unassisted directly from Belle River giveaways.
Game Three returns to Belle River this Friday March 25 at 7:30pm.
