Blenheim Boys Do Battle in Sutherland Cup, Hope and Stars Win

It was a strange place for two Blenheim hockey players to meet, but Brett Hope and Brady Campbell, both Blenheim and District Minor Hockey and Chatham-Kent Cyclones graduates, faced off Wednesday night in Elmira. Brett Hope, playing for the St. Thomas Stars got the upper hand on Campbell, who skates for the Elmira Sugar Kings in their first meeting of the Junior B Sutherland Cup with a 4-2 win.

The win is the first for St. Thomas in the Sutherland Cup after they lost to Niagara Falls earlier this week. Elmira also lost to Niagara Falls.

Both Campbell and Hope were held off the scoresheet Wednesday night although both have played prominent roles for their team’s on the journey to the Sutherland Cup, with both scoring at or more than a point per game throught the postseason.

During the regular season, Campbell scored 28 goals and 26 assists in 51 games. Last season as a member of the Blenheim Blades, Brady Campbell had 39 points in 40 games. Hope, who played the last three seasons with the Chatham Maroons, moved to St. Thomas this seasona and scored 33 regular season points in 51 games. In only 16 playoff games, Hope exploded for 18 points this postseason.

Bo Horvat, Drew Collinson, and Dylan Thomas each had goals and multi-point games to lead the St. Thomas Stars to their 4-2 win over Elmira. St. Thomas travels to Niagara this Friday, before welcoming Elmira to St. Thomas Saturday. Sunday, Elmira and Niagara Falls close out the Sutherland Cup Round Robin in Elmira.
