Following the exodus of long time head coach Mark Davis, the Wallaceburg Lakers have parted ways with former general manager Kevin Hood, and named a new coaching staff headed by Wallaceburg resident BJ Charpentier.

Former general manager and president Kevin Hood stepped down according to the Wallaceburg Lakers. Emails to Hood by CKSN have not been returned at this time. Replacing Hood as the new Wallaceburg General Manager will be long time Lakers assistant coach, and former head coach Paul Grealis.

Charpentier is a former Wallaceburg Lakers player and previously served as head coach of the team prior to Mark Davis’ mid-season return to Wallaceburg from the Leamington Flags. At the time, the Lakers team was dealing with the tragic death of player Tristan Carswell, and the veteran Davis was brought in to support Carpentier and help deal with the tragedy.

BJ Charpentier will be joined on the Wallaceburg Lakers bench this season by Chris Lalonde, a former team captain and assistant coach last season, as well as by last season’s captain Nash Lozon. Scott Wilbur will also serve as an assistant coach this season.

The young group will attempt to guide a Wallaceburg Lakers team that is dealing with an early 6 game playoff loss to the Wheatley Sharks last season, as well as the loss of 4 top veteran players to due to age.

The Lakers are also expected to be without additional veterans who are being recruited by local Junior B hockey teams. Last seasons head coach Mark Davis will be serving as the new head coach of the Lambton Shores Predators junior B team.

I think BJ is a great choice to take over the helm in Wallacewburg. He brings both playing and coaching experience to the table and being a local person means he has a commitment to the community. I wish him all the best in the upcoming season!
