Blades GM Cowell Honoured at OHA Annual Meeting
The Ontario Hockey Association held its AGM this past weekend in Alliston and during the proceedings it was announced that Blenheim Blades general manager Wayne Cowell will be the receipent this season of one of the OHA highest honours – a crystal puck.
The award goes to members of the OHA who have been tireless workers for the association and/or member teams for years, and will be presented to Cowell during a home game at some point this season.
Cowell has been involved in Junior hockey for almost three decades as a coach or manager in Junior ‘C’ with either the Blades and Dresden Kings, or the Chatham Maroons in Junior ‘B’.
In early May Cowell returned to the Blades as the club’s GM, after having played in Blenheim in the early 1970s and coaching in the mid-1990s.
It was also announced that former Chatham Maroon Ed Wagner, long-time GM of the Alvinston Flyers, will receive a crystal puck as well.
Last year, Blenheim’s Dick Allen, who spent many years as convenor of the Great Lakes Junior ‘C’ Hockey League, was also awarded a crystal puck.
