Winning Weekend Continues For Blenheim Bobcats
After watching their Senior Girls volleyball team capture a Kent championship, the winning weekend continued for the Blenheim Bobcats, as the BDHS senior boys basketball team outlasted Tilbury to grab the 2012 Kent basketball title.
As they have all season, Nathan Kelly and Ryan Brooke led the way for Blenheim in the 57-32 victory over the Tilbury Titans.
Nathan Kelly had 19-points in the win, while Brooke grabbed 11-points. Brooke was the Blenheim Bobcats’ leading scorer in 10-out-of-14 games this season including a season high 23-points in December against Pain Court.
The win for the Blenheim Bobcats was no sure thing as Tilbury was the only single “A” team in the league to defeat the Bobcats during the regular season, beating Blenheim 59-40 in January.
Ben Wiebe who averaged almost 20-points per game this season led all Tilbury scorers in the loss with 19-points.
Blenheim will now advance to face the Lambton County single “A” representative in the SWOSSAA basketball semi-final.
In the Junior Boys “A” basketball final, Matt Welford led all scorers helping his Ridgetown Royals to a 45-39 victory over the Chatham Christian Flames to win the Kent Junior Championship. Marcus McEachren and Dustin Pickard each had 13-points for Ridgetown. Mike DeBoer was the top scorer for Chatham Christian with 13-points as well.
