Cobra’s Taekwondo Training Centre had 2 athletes compete at the 2013 Tri-Star Taekwondo Championships held at Connestoga College in Kitchener on September 28th. The event was sanctioned by the Ontario Taekwondo Association and hosted by Tri-Star Taekwondo.

Brandon Benoit (10) had a golden performance competing in the 10-11 years old yellow belt green stripe division. Benoite won both semi-finals and finals by point gap (10 point spread). In the semis he had a score of 11-1 and won the finals with a score of 11-(-1). Brandon also competed in the same age and belt level, poomsae (patterns) competition earning bronze.

Keegan Kovar (8), just turning 8 the day before the competition, competed in the 8-9 year old blue belt red stripe division. In the semis, Kovar, who has been training under USA rules, threw out a perfectly timed counter spin hook kick, late in round 2. This however, legal in the US, resulted in a full point deduction. He also lost another full point for 2 warnings he received, 1 for pushing and 1 for falling down. Keegan ended up losing the match 5-3 to earn bronze.
