Beware of the Chatham Maroons
Entering the final third of the GOJHL season, Chatham’s roster, which has been bolstered several times throughout the year, is a certified all-star team. The icing of which, came this week as Chatham added Charlie Izaguirre and John Bowen.
Izaguirre is second on the GOJHL’s all-time active scoring list, behind another early season acquisition by the Maroons, and is currently 6th in provincial scoring, coming over from the Port Colborne Pirates. Bowen, a defenseman, has spend the last three years in the OHL and QMJHL with Windsor, Kingston, and Victoriaville.
As the season kicked off, Chatham added all-star defenseman Tanner Ferguson, reigning league MVP and all-time active scoring leader Adam Arseneault, as well as all-star and current league leading scorer Kyle Brothers from the Lambton Shores Predators.
The Maroons then acquired four year GOJHL veteran, Jared Denis from Leamington.
When goaltending became an issue, Chatham traded for goalie Jacob Keogh from the Cambridge Winterhawks. What did Keogh do? He went undefeated in his first month and won GOJHL Western Conference Goaltender of the Month honours. The Maroons also acquired Kyle Rowe, who was playing Tier II Junior A with the Elliot Lake Bobcat. Rowe has since been sidelined with an injury, but is expected back soon.
In all, the Maroons have won 12 straight, and show no signs of stopping as they climb the Western Conference standings.
The Chatham Maroons host the London Nationals this Sunday evening at Memorial Arena.
