Chatham-Kent February Athlete of the Month Voting
Below are CKSN’s nominees for the February 2014 Chatham-Kent Athlete of the Month.
Voting will continue until Thursday, March 6, with the winner being named Friday, March 7. Poll votes, comments below, as well as Facebook comments (www.facebook.com/cksportsnetwork) and Twitter Retweets (www.twitter.com/cksportsnetwork) will be counted as votes. Nominees in Alphabetical Order and Monthly Highlights:
Megan Canniff (Chatham) – Helped Kent Chaos 17U volleyball club to Huron Valley Volleyball Club Invitational title in Michigan. Played key role at middle, leading the UCC Lancers senior girls volleyball team to their first ever Kent title, and a week later, the school’s first ever SWOSSAA title. Canniff will compete with UCC at OFSAA in March.
Seth Griffith (Wallaceburg) – Playing for the AHL’s Providence Bruins. Scored a goal, February 1 against Worcester. In back to back games February 14 and 16, had two assists in each, being named second start on the 14th against St. John’s. Climbed into the AHL’s top 20 in rookie scoring for much of the month.
Maddy Lalonde (Blenheim) – Playing for the UCC Lancers girls hockey team, Lalonde scored twice in a 6-0 win over CKSS in the Kent semi-final. In the Kent final February 20 against LKCS, Lalonde assisted on all three goals in UCC’s 3-2 win. Then in the SWOSSAA semi-final against Sarnia St. Patricks, Lalonde scored a hat trick, powering UCC to a 4-1 win. Lalonde also plays for the Chatham Outlaws Midget ‘AA’ team.
Jason Missiaen (Chatham) – Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the Week of February 10-16, playing for the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors. In the month of February, Missiaen picked up a 5-2 record, with a save percentage of 0.927 and 2.52 GAA.
Justin Rossignol (Ridgetown) – Playing for the Blenheim Blades of the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League, Rossignol collected 8 goals and added 2 assists in 9 playoff games, helping the Blenheim Blades to a first round win over Mooretown, and pushing them deep into a series with the Belle River Canadiens.
Joseph Raaymakers (Chatham) – After backstopping his team to two playoff series victories in January, Joseph Raaymakers pushed his Chatham-Kent Cyclones Minor Midget ‘AAA’ team to the brink of the Alliance finals before they were eliminated by Kitchener in triple OT. Raaymakers finished the month with a 0.955 save percentage and 1.47 GAA in the playoffs.
Laura Wiersma (Chatham) – The captain of the Chatham Christian Flames, Wiersma helped the Flames Senior Girls Volleyball team to silver at the All-Ontario Christian Girls Volleyball tournament, and to a Kent championship. Wiersma and the Flames fell just short of an OFSAA position, but her performance in the month was a key to one of CCHS’ best seasons.
