Canniff Leads Chaos To Silver

The Kent Chaos 17U girls volleyball team had another successful weekend playing in the VolleyFX Winter Challenge in Rochester, New York. Originally ranked 21 out of 24 teams, the Chaos rode the play of Megan Canniff, who was selected as a tournament first team all-star, to capture a Division 2 silver medal.

“Our girls showed a tremendous amount of heart and character and sportsmanship, and I couldn’t have been more proud of each one for the effort they put forth throughout the weekend,” wrote coach Kelly Beausejour to CKSN.

To begin the tournament on Saturday, the Kent Choas played well finishing 1st in their opening pool with a 6-0 record, deafeating the Shamrocks, Lakeside Ice, and Lakeshore VC.

After being re-pooled, the Chaos split their games going 3-3 against the New York Attack, Whirlwind, and York Spartans in some very tough matches.

Their finish placed the 17U Kent Chaos team in Division 2 for Sunday where the teams became more competitive. In the challenge match to decide the seeding for Division 2, the Chaos played the Shamrocks winning in straight sets.

In the quarters finals the Chaos played Buffalo Academy going 2-0, before winning the semi-finals over Club Xtreme in 3 games.

Facing the Niagara Frontier Club in the Division 2 final, the Kent Chaos lost in straight sets, 22-25,26-28 to bring home the silver.

Along with Canniff, three other Kent Chaos players were recognized by tournament organizers. Summer Eastcott and Mariet Wierenga were both named tournament second team all-stars, while Andrea Colosant was named to the tournament’s all-defensive team.
