Chatham’s Derek Whitson won a bronze medal at the Sochi 2014 Paralympics after his Team Canada Sledge Hockey team defeated Norway in the bronze medal game.

Whitson was second in ice time among Canadian players through three round robin games and had two assists in a 10-1 win over Sweden.

In the bronze medal game, a 3-0 win over Norway, Whitson was again among Canada’s ice time leaders, and had two shots on net.

Billy Bridges scored twice for Canada, while Brad Bowden had a goal in the gold medal game.

After coming home empty handed from the Paralympics in Vancouver in 2010, Whitson and Team Canada took bronze in Sochi. This is Whitson’s first Paralympic Sledge Hockey medal.
