Joseph Raaymakers Drafted By OHL’s Soo Greyhounds In Second Round
“It’s pretty hard to describe the feeling,” said Raaymakers moments after being drafted. “I’ll remember it forever. I’m very proud to be a member of the Soo Greyhounds. I look forward to playing with them.”
One of the most hyped goaltenders in Ontario, Raaymakers first caught the eyes of scouts over the past two seasons, and gained notoriety when he was invited to the All-State All Canadian NHLPA Mentorship Camp this past offseason, which features.
Raaymakers, a grade 10 student at Ecole Secondaire de Pain Court, who went in the second round, will undoubtedly be signed by the Greyhounds, as typically selections in the opening two rounds are rostered immediately by their OHL clubs.
Raaymakers, who played in the Alliance Hockey All-Star game, attended the OHL Combine prior to the draft and ranked second among goaltenders in off ice training, further impressing scouts and general managers.
In the regular season, Raaymakers sat near the top of the Alliance in all statistical categories with a 2.16 GAA, 0.936 save percentage, and 3 shutouts. In the playoffs, Raaymakers, who stands 6’1″, improved those numbers even further, collecting a 1.72 GAA and an incredible 0.947 save percentage.
