The Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks senior boys volleyball team won their second straight tournament to open the 2014-2015 season, capturing gold at the University of Guelph this past weekend.

CKSS beat Elmira, Cardinal Newman and Cameron Heights in pool play, before taking down Georgetown in the quarters, and Uxbridge in the semi-finals to set up a final against Jacob Hespler.

The Golden Hawks, who are the back-to-back reigning OFSAA gold medallists, beat Jacob Hespler 2-0, by scores of 25-18 and 25-21. CKSS knocked Hespler wout in the quarter finals at last years OFSAA tournament.

“Our boys have been working very hard at practice, and it has shown in their play during tournaments,” says CKSS coach Tim Liedl of the Golden Hawks’ early season performance, which also includes a tournament win at Waterloo earlier this month.

Chatham-Kent Secondary School will now prepare to host one of the premier tournaments of the season this Friday and Saturday as 18 of the best teams in the Province travel to Chatham-Kent to play in the Team Varsity Sports Senior Boys Volleyball Invitational.
