Chatham-Kent October Athlete of the Month: Delainey Johnson and Seth Griffith
Delainey Johnson had an incredible month in two sports. Competing with the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks cross country team, Johnson won both the LKSSAA and SWOSSAA titles in the midget girls division, qualifying for OFSAA. At the OFSAA pre-meet earlier in October, Johnson finished 3rd, racing against more than 400 over the provinces top runners.
As the calendar clicked over to November, Johnson continued to shine finishing 6th at OFSAA.
At a season opening S.E.A.L. swim meet in Alymer, competing for the Blenheim Blast, Delainey Johnson won gold in three events, the 50m fly, 100m back, and 100m free. She added more swimming gold later in October at the Fall Invitational in Windsor, winning the 50m fly, and taking silver in the 50m back.
Johnson and Seth Griffith, were separated by only 0.34% in the vote, making it a virtual tie.
Seth Griffith made his NHL career debut in October for the Boston Bruins.
After being recalled by Boston, Griffith played on the Bruins’ top line, competing in 8 games during October. During that span, Griffith collected 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points, including being named First Star of an October 28 win over Minnesota, when he scored 2 goals and an assist.
