Woods Top Goalie In Canada
Sarah has played for the London Lynx AA Ringette teams the last three years as their sole goalie. Her team won Gold at the U16AA Ringette Provincials held in London on March 15th. Her team flew to Fort McMurrary, Alberta representing the province as Team Ontario. Her team played 11 games against the best ringette teams across Canada only to lose in the gold medal game to Team Manitoba 6-4, a game in which Woods made 32 saves in the loss. Sarah was honoured at the Closing Awards Ceremony as the U16AA Top Goalie in Canada and First Line Team Canada All Star. She was also honoured in the Opening Ceremonies with all age divisions, representing Team Canada in a shoot-out skills competition against the host province, Alberta, winning 10-4.
Woods started playing ringette since age 4 where she played centre and forward until a goalie was needed for her team. Sarah volunteered and she played sole goalie successfully for multiple age levels for Chatham Thunder Ringette Association. At 13 years old, Sarah tried out for AA in London where she has played sole goalie against different countries and Province’s.
Sarah is proud to have coached many promising goalies and shares her knowledge and expertise teaching goalie clinics offered in August by Chatham Thunder Ringette Association at Thames Campus Arena. She also volunteers for the Learn to Skate program offered by the Association.
Woods will be moving up to Belle U19 AA next year and intends to tryout for the highest level AAA and AA ringette teams in three weeks.
The last two years Woods has also played goalie for the Chatham-Kent Secondary School girls hockey team and won MVP 2014 for her efforts as a hockey goalie.
