Strikers Dominate At Tournament
The Strikers first defeated Cambridge United B 2-0 in pool play. Kaitlyn Isaac started the scoring with a well placed low shot to the left corner. Jessica Conrod scored early in the second half from a through ball from Shelbie Coristine.
Next the Strikers met the Burlington Bayhawks. The girls played a well battle game against a strong opponent. Mackenzie French scored the games only goal to claim the victory 1-0.
The last game in pool play was against Leaside Tigers, Chatham dominated the play. Hailee Landuyt scored on a perfectly placed cross from Jessica Conrod.
They finished first in pool play sending them to the semi-finals against a tough opponent from WOYSL L3 division Cambridge A.
In the semis, the Strikers capitalized quickly with Mackenzie French scoring in the first 3 minutes of play off a rebound from Kayla Coates. Kayla Coates scored on a breakaway just before half to go up 2-0. Kaitlyn Isaac placed a low hard shot to the corner to finish the game 3-0.
Chatham Strikers challenged the Islington Rangers in the final. Kayla Coates scored the first goal of the game. Kaitlyn Isaac deked out several players and finished with an amazing shot to the top corner to finish the game 2-0. Midfielders Alexa Arbour, Emily Barstead, Kaitlyn Isaac, Taryn Dudley and Shelbie Coristine set the tune on the pitch all weekend controlling the game. Strikers finished the tournament going 5-0 with 0 goals against.
Outstanding defensive play by Clair Boughner, Payton Sabourin, Joelle Tetrault, Legacie Blackbird, and Meagan Hitchcock. Keeper Hunter Gagner played excellent between the pipes to earn herself 5 shutouts.
