Maroons Win Playoff Opener

The Chatham Maroons edged the St. Thomas Stars at home Thursday night to open their GOJHL Western Conference playoff run.

Brendan Johnston made 34 saves for Chatham, leading the Maroons to a tight 2-1 decision.

St. Thomas’ Carson Moniz opened the games scoring in the first period.

In the second, Brenden D’Agostino scored, with assists going to Kevin Gursoy and Cory Bussing to tie the game.

Later in the frame, Cole Dezainde potted the deciding marker, assisted by Austin Thompson and Bussing.

The third period would see Chatham outshoot the Stars 14-6, but neither team was able to add to the scoring.

The teams play game two Friday in St. Thomas, before returning to Chatham Sunday for game three.
