The Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks capped off a perfect regular season and playoff season in LKSSAA play, defeating the Northern Vikings to win the 2017 LKSSAA Girls Hockey championship.

The Hawks took a 1-0 win over Northern, with Jocelyn Maryschak scoring the lone goal in the opening period of the LKSSAA final, held at Sarnia Arena. Maia Collins and Kirsten Horney assisted on the goal.

“Today’s win was good experience for our team,” said Hawks coach Ian Kennedy. “We haven’t been in many tight games, especially with so much on the line. That experience of winning in different ways, and doing the little things necessary to win a close game, will serve us well in the future. We can always get better, but we’re definitely happy with the result, and proud of the work the girls have put in to this point.”

Jessie McPherson took the shutout in net for the Hawks.

The Golden Hawks were 6-0 in the regular season, outscoring their opponents 43-2, before shutting out Sarnia St. Pats 8-0 in the LKSSAA semi-final.

The team won three tournament titles this season, including the Southern Ontario Cup in Windsor, Warrior Classic in Stratford, and the Flames Cup in London.

CKSS will now advance to play Villanova in the SWOSSAA final, Tuesday, March 7 at 1:30pm at the Libro Center in Amherstburg.

In their only meeting this season, CKSS defeated Villanova 3-1 in the semi-final of the Southern Ontario Cup in Windsor.
