Sabourin, Pegg, MacLeod: Winners At LKSSAA

Three Chatham-Kent runners won their respective divisions at the LKSSAA cross country championships at Canatara Park in Sarnia on Thursday.

Payton Sabourin of Chatham-Kent Secondary School won the senior girls race as a grade 11, completing the 6km course in 25:25, nearly a minute faster than the second place finisher from Sarnia Northern.

UCC’s Brooke MacLeod won the 5km Junior girls race, finishing in 20:54.

The Midget Girls’ division was dominated by CKSS runners, paced by Emma Pegg who won the 4km race in a time of 16:49. She was followed by teammates Alyssa Robinson (18:08) and Genevieve Sasseville (18:27) to round out the top three in the race.

CKSS’ Adrian Stubberfield finished second in the Junior boys race (18:26).

In the senior boys race, Cam Ross (21:22) and Thador Thekli (21:38) of CKSS finished second and third.

The top 10 teams in each division advance to SWOSSAA next week, along with anyone in the top 30 who is not part of those teams. SWOSSAA will be held at Malden Park in Windsor.
