The 2017 LKSSAA Junior Boys AAA Football Championship game will go down in history as the “Mud Bowl.”

Played on the Ursuline College field in what most people would expect to be a very low scoring lack of movement game, the undefeated UCC Lancers did what they’ve done all season, move the ball down field and dominate start to finish in a 38-0 win over CKSS.

“This was one of our most complete games of the season,” said Lancers head coach Jim O’Brien, “Both sides of the ball rose to the occasion and executed our game plans despite the weather.”

The UCC Lancers offence racked up 217 yards on the ground and an improbable 137 yards in the air securing 17 first downs on their way to victory over the 5-2 Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks.

Leading rushers for the Lancers were Tyler Shumanski 8 carries for 70 yards (1 td), Tanner Hoorelbeck 7 carries for 40 (2 td.’s) and Nakoma Scott 6 carries for 59 yards.

In the air, Matt Hawryluk, Quinton Emerick, and Nakoma Scott all pulled in 30 plus yard completions.

Touchdowns were scored by Tanner Hoorelbeck (2), Evan Torres, Tyler Shumanski, Quinton Emerick, and Trevor Lawton who picked up a fumble and rumbled 40 yards for the Lancers final 4th quarter touchdown.

Herb McCauley, the Lancers offensive coordinator stuck to his plan by keeping the CKSS defence off balance utilizing a steady mix of run and pass and using the wildcat formation of power running, maintaining ball security in the sloppy conditions.

On the defensive side, players executed coordinator Cesar Torres’ plan to perfection allowing the Golden Hawks only 2 first downs and 46 yards of total offence. Leading tacklers were Quinton Emerick with 10 and Dylan Butler with 6.
