Minor hockey thrives due to Horvat’s legacy

A golf tournament that was held recently, raised $34,000 to help get local kids involved in hockey.

The GoodayLetsPlay seventh annual golf tournament was held on Aug. 24 at the Wardsville Golf Club.

GoodayLetsPlay is a non-profit organization that helps kids participate in organized minor hockey associations, the lifeblood of local hockey. Their support consists of funding for all or a portion of the registration fee for children who are first-year registrants in the Initiation Program and desire to start playing the game of hockey.

They also help local minor hockey associations, consisting of Dresden, Bothwell, Glencoe, West Lorne, Alvinston, Watford, Ridgetown and Blenheim respectively provide new and used equipment for those who are currently experiencing difficulty raising enough funds to fully participate in hockey.

Since its inception, GoodayLetsPlay has raised close to $200,000 to support more than 600 hockey players in five local hockey centers.

The GoodayLetsPlay organization honours John Horvat, who is well-known in southwestern Ontario hockey circles. Horvat died in 2010.
