High school cross-country season begins

Local high school runners had strong showings at the first LKSSAA cross-country meet held Sept. 13 at Crothers Conservation Authority in Wallaceburg.
Ursuline Lancer Gabruela Jeremain won the Novice girls division, completing the 2.1 km course in 8:46. Wallaceburg’s Ella Simpson was fifth in the division and her teammate Ruby Nethery was sixth.
UCC’s Miles Carrington won the Novice Boys division, with his Lancer teammates Lucas Mills and Maverick Zele finishing second and fourth respectively. McGregor Panther Lowe Klontzig was fifth in the division.
In the junior girls division, Ursuline’s Chelsea Whitehouse was first by a minute and a half, completing the 3.2 km course in 14:28. Lambton-Kent’s Cindel Thompson was fourth.
In the junior boys division, Sarnia Northern dominated, finishing in seven of the top eight spots. Ursuline’s Aric West was fifth overall.
In the senior girls division, Chatham-Kent’s Gracie Vandergriendt was the top finisher, running the 4.3 km course in 17 minutes flat. Her Golden Hawk teammate Olivia Watson was fifth.
In the senior boys division, Chatham-Kent’s Gavin Lumley was second and his teammate Dayton Keech was fourth.
Sarnia Northern won five of the six divisions, with the Ursuline Lancers winning the Novice Boys title.
