Morrison named IBL rookie-of-the-year

Chatham-Kent Barnstormers second baseman Evan Morrison is a hit machine.

Morrison was named the Intercounty Baseball League’s rookie of the year earlier this week.

Morrison, who is from Mitchell but now lists Wheatley as his hometown, won the IBL batting title with a .422 average in 35 games.

Currently a senior at Grand Valley State—a Division II school in Michigan, Morrison is batting .353 this fall in four games. Last spring he batted .341 and was named to the 2025 All-Midwest Region first team, and first-team all-GLIAC as he had a productive spring. Morrison started all 57 games at shortstop, with 76 hits, 17 doubles, three home runs, three triples and 43 RBI. Morrison led the GLIAC in runs scored and set the GVSU single-season record with 73. He tallied 22 multi-hit games, 14 multi-RBI games, recorded a 19-game hitting streak and reached base in 56-of-57 games played. In addition, he walked 36 times and was 17-for-24 in stolen bases.
