Ethan Jordan wins Hec Crighton Trophy

Chatham’s Ethan Jordan was named the recipient of the Hec Crighton Trophy as the U SPORTS football Player of the Year at the Vanier Cup awards gala held on Thursday.

Jordan, who spent the past five years suiting up as a receiver with the Laurier Golden Hawks, was also named the Ontario Universities Association player-of-the-year and a first-team all-Canadian.

“I am incredibly honoured to have received the Hec Crighton award. I accept this award, not only for myself, but on behalf of the whole Laurier football family,” Jordan said.

“From the fans that have shown an immense amount of support over my last five years, to my coaches and my teammates that have pushed me every day to become a better player, and more importantly a better man, I accept this award with the utmost gratitude and honour.”

Jordan is the second Chatham football player to win the Hec Crighton, and became only the eighth U SPORTS receiver to win the award since it was handed out in 1967, and first receiver to win since Laval’s Kevin Mital in 2022.

A graduate of Chatham-Kent Secondary School, Jordan joins former McGregor standout Andy Fantuz as Hec Crighton winners from the Maple City. Fantuz won the award in 2005.

Jordan’s 1,066 receiving yards were a career high in a single season, and it was his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. He broke the Laurier football program’s career receiving yards record this season with 3,458 and now has the second-most career yards in both OUA and U SPORTS history.

Jordan’s 10 touchdowns this season led all OUA receivers for the third straight year, led his team for the fourth straight, and was second in U SPORTS. He broke Laurier’s program record for career receiving touchdowns with 30.

He had 68 receptions on the season, again leading his team for the fourth year in a row, and it was the fourth-most single season receptions in OUA history. It puts him at 239 career receptions, which is a new program and OUA record.

Jordan had a career best 133.3 receiving yards per game thanks to his six games with over 100-yards. He led U SPORTS for the second straight year, OUA for the third, and his team for the fourth, respectively.

“Ethan’s career has been so impressive, not only has he capped off his career as one of the best Golden Hawks ever, but he truly is one of the best U SPORTS receivers in the history of the game,” manager of football operations and head coach Michael Faulds said.
