-The Stars are really young. They have only one 19 or 20 year-old (birth year) players. By comparison, the Maroons have eight.
-The Stars had the second lowest penalty minutes (670) of the Western Conference teams. Last spring the Maroons won the Sutherland Cup due in part to an explosive power play. This regular season the Maroons had the top offence in the Western Conference, and second overall in the GOHL.
-St. Thomas has a young team. Sarnia Sting draft pick Myles Dunn led the team with 57 points. London Knights draft pick Eloan La Gallic was tied for second in team scoring with 54 points. Fellow Stars rookie Wyatt Cameron also added 54 points. The potent trio could give the Maroons a challenge.
-Another Stars rookie who is familiar to Maroons fans is Chase Pettipiece. Pettipiece appeared as an affiliate player for the Maroons in 13 games the previous two years. Pettipiece was selected by the Flint Firebirds in the 2025 OHL U18 draft.
Pettipiece had 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 47 games.
The Merlin native is the son of Meaggan Pettipiece (nee Wilton), who played on Canada’s national women’s softball team for six years, representing Canada at the 2000 Olympics and as an alternate on the 2004 Olympic team.
