You could hear the cheers every time she touched the ball.

In front of a large crowd that included at least a couple hundred fans from Chatham-Kent who made the drive to Toronto, Chatham’s Bridget Carleton had 15 points, going 4 for 8 from three-point range, to help her Portland Fire rout the Toronto Tempo 99-80 on Saturday in the first-ever game between the two expansion WNBA teams.

Carleton has been the focus of Portland’s offence so far this season. The Fire are now 3-3 on the season.

Carleton is in her first year with Portland, after being picked first in the WNBA’s expansion draft earlier this year. This is her seventh year in the WNBA after a standout career at Iowa State.

In 2023, Carleton played an exhibition game in Toronto as a member of the Minnesota Lynx.
