Barnstormers Evan Morrison picked by the Texas Rangers in MLB draft

Chatham-Kent Barnstormers’ Evan Morrison received a call to go to the big leagues.
The 23-year old from Wheatley was drafted during the weekend’s Major League Baseball draft by the Texas Rangers. He was picked in the tenth round, 297th overall.
Morrison received the news while taking part in the Canadian Baseball League all-star game held in Chatham on Sunday.
Morrison has played the past two seasons in the summer for the Barnstormers. He was named the league’s rookie-of-the-year last season, leading the league with a .422 batting average. It two seasons in Chatham-Kent, Morrison has a .389 batting average, an on-base average of .438 and an OPS of 0.958.
Morrison played the past two seasons at NCAA Division II Grand Valley State.
Morrison was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2026 and an All-American, after posting a 1.065 OPS, 27 extra-base hits and 27 stolen bases in 58 games. He also struck out in just seven of his 288 trips to the plate.
