Walpole Island lacrosse players heading to national box lacrosse championships

Walpole Island First Nation is a hotbed for girls’ and women’s lacrosse.

A large contingent of Walpole Island female lacrosse players will compete at national box lacrosse championships in August.

Thirteen girls and women lacrosse players will represent Team First Nation (12) or Team Ontario (1) at the national lacrosse stage.

The minor box lacrosse national championships will be held in Halifax from August 11-15.

Those who made Team First Nation include:

U13-Dylan Chrisjohn
U15-Dreah Wiman, Avery Hopkins
U17-Azlynn Soney, Zara Blackbird, Aaliyah Peters, Keira Blackbird, Bella Doxtator, Miinaan Pinnance.

The U22 (junior) championships will be held in Whitby from August 9-15.

U22-Tanna Jacobs is playing for Team Ontario

The U22 championship is the inaugural Carol Patterson Cup, a new standalone national championship dedicated to Junior Women’s box lacrosse. The Carol Patterson Cup brings together six of the top provincial teams in Canada: Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, First Nations, Nova Scotia, and Manitoba.
