Greenhouse workers will vie for regional soccer championship

The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG), the Migrant Worker Community Program (MWCP) and North Lambton Community Health Centre (NLCHC) are bringing the spirit of the world’s game to Chatham, through a regional championship soccer match featuring the top teams from last year’s local greenhouse soccer tournament.

The championship will see Golden Acre Farms take on Roeland Plant Farms in a celebration of teamwork, sportsmanship, and the dedicated greenhouse workers whose contributions help drive Ontario’s thriving greenhouse vegetable sector.

The game will take place Sunday (July 26), at 5 p.m. at St. Clair College Thames Campus – Soccer Field #1.

Local greenhouse workers will have the opportunity to showcase their talent, teamwork, and community pride. The regional championship highlights the strong connections and shared sense of community among the workers who help make Ontario a leader in greenhouse vegetable production.

“The FIFA World Cup reminds us of soccer’s unique ability to bring people together across cultures, languages, and communities,” said Richard Lee, Executive Director, OGVG. “This championship reflects that same spirit while recognizing the hard work and dedication of the greenhouse employees who are essential to Ontario’s world-class vegetable sector.”

Members of the public are invited to attend this free event and cheer on the teams as they compete for regional bragging rights.

Families, friends, employers, and community supporters are encouraged to join in celebrating the athletes and their valuable contributions both on the field and throughout Ontario’s greenhouse sector.
