Highgate Rock will be underdogs at world fastball tournament
Some of the world’s best fastball players will be heading to Chippewa of the Thames for ISC World Tournament in a few weeks.
Fastball fans across Chatham-Kent will have a rare opportunity this August as the International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournament comes to Chippewa of the Thames (Melbourne) from August 8-15.
The prestigious event will feature 34 of the top men’s fastball teams in the world competing for the ISC World Championship title. Widely regarded as the highest level of men’s fastball, the tournament will showcase elite athletes from around the globe, including players from Canada, the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Botswana, Guatemala, Venezuela, and several other countries.
For local fans, there will be plenty of hometown connections to cheer for.
The Highgate Rock will be making their ISC World Tournament debut, marking a significant milestone for the growing Chatham-Kent-area club. Featuring several local players, Highgate enters the tournament as the 34th-ranked team in the 34-team field, embracing their role as the newcomers and looking to make a statement on the world stage.
Another local connection comes through Chase Konency, who will be competing with the Bear Creek Express as a base runner. Chatham-Kent resident Stephen Malott will also be representing the area, toeing the rubber for the host Chippewa Chiefs during the tournament.
The host Chippewa Chiefs enter the championship ranked 13th among the 34-team field and will have the advantage of playing in front of a supportive home crowd throughout the week.
The ISC World Tournament represents a unique opportunity for local sports enthusiasts to experience the speed, skill, and excitement of elite men’s fastball. From blazing pitches nearing 90 mph from just 47 feet away to spectacular defensive plays and powerful offenses, the tournament promises a week of outstanding softball action.
JDT First Energy Veterans Memorial Fields, located behind Bear Creek Gas Bar, will be the main venue for the 2026 ISC World Tournament. This is a growing entertainment hub that will hold softball games, tournaments, and clinics, as well as entertainment events.
The secondary venue will be the Southwest Middlesex Recreational Complex in Glencoe.
