Laprise and Steinman win gold at Canadian 22U baseball championship

Wallaceburg’s Lucas Larpise and Chatham’s Brody Steinman won gold with the Windsor Selects at the Canadian 22U baseball championship held on the weekend in Tecumseh.

Windsor defeated the Carillon Sultans 5-0 in the gold medal game on Sunday. Carillon is based out of Manitoba.

Laprise was the Selects catcher, providing a key double in the gold medal game to knock in the Selects first run of the game. It was deja vu all over again for Laprise, as he has now gone back-to-back like the cover of Lethal Weapon, winning gold last summer with Windsor.

Laprise is eligible to play with the Selects next season, which will be great, as he will look to go back-to-back-to back like the Chicago Bulls in 96-97-98.

Brody Steinman was a call up from the Windsor Selects U18 team and provided the U22 with pitching depth during the tournament.

Steinman, a recent Chatham-Kent Secondary School graduate, will play this upcoming season at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, Ill.

Like Laprise, Steinman spends his baseball off-season on the ice, as he was a goalie with the Chatham-Kent Golden Hawks. Laprise is going into his third year with the Strathroy Rockets, where he is an assistant captain.
