Horvat new Islanders captain

Bo Horvat has been named the New York Islanders captain for the upcoming season.

The 31-year-old Horvat had a strong season last year, winning an Olympic silver medal with Team Canada, and scoring 31 goals and 57 points in 68 games last year for the Islanders.

Horvat was captain with the Vancouver Canucks from 2019 until his trade to the Islanders in January of 2023.

Horvat’s family is well-known in Chatham-Kent hockey circles. He grew up just outside Chatham-Kent in Rodney and played his minor hockey in West Lorne, which renamed their arena the Bo Horvat Community Centre in the summer of 2024.
