Badminton Season Underway

The KCSSAA high school Junior and Senior badminton seasons kicked off with multiple tournaments over the last week, including a the CKSS Junior Badminton Tournament last night.

At CKSS, more than 60 competitors from eight schools competed in the first Junior badminton event of the season.

CKSS grade 10 Eve Stokes took the girls singles title sweeping her way through each round to capture the crown.

Fellow Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks athletes Josh Roy and Pierce Johnson, who attended SWOSSAA badminton last year as grade 9’s, won the boys doubles final, beating UCC’s top team in the final.

Pain Court was in their usual form, also winning multiple divisions at the tournament.

Brant Bagnell and Paige Moffat won the mixed doubles division, while Madeleine Myers and Elise Pinsonneault captured the girls double final.

In the final match played, Chatham Christian’s Jarrod Kloostra won a thriller over ESPC’s Mitchell Benn to win the boys singles crown.

KCSSAA Junior badminton continues next week with a tournament at John McGregor Secondary School.
