Brown earns player-of-the-week honours

Chatham’s Marguerite Brown, who is a catcher on the Bellevue University women’s softball team, was named the Frontier Conference Softball Player of the Week after her performances last week during the Bruins’ spring break trip to the Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Fla.

A Chatham-Kent Secondary School grad, Brown batted .542 (13-for-24) over six games as Bellevue went 3-3 on the week. She totaled four doubles, one home run, four RBIs and five runs scored while producing a .833 slugging percentage and a .542 on-base percentage.

Brown recorded hits in all six games during the week and posted five straight multi-hit games. She also enters the Bruins’ home-opening series riding an eight-game hitting streak. Among her four doubles on the week was one in Bellevue’s 3-0 upset of No. 6 Madonna University.

Brown also contributed defensively, totaling 34 chances with 31 putouts and two assists while posting a .971 fielding percentage.

Brown is a junior at Belluvue, which is located in Nebraska and is an NAIA school.

The past two years previous to going to Bellevue, Brown went to Kankakee Community College, which is located in Illinois. While at KCC, Brown helped lead the Cavaliers to a 44-16 record and a berth in the NJCAA Region IV Final Four in 2025. She earned First Team All-Region honours in both 2024 and 2025 and was named Region IV Tournament MVP in 2024. Brown served as team captain for both seasons.

Over her two-year junior college career, Brown posted a .436 batting average with 19 home runs, 29 doubles, two triples, 109 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases
