Cyclones U14 move on to Alliance finals

A talented Chatham-Kent Cyclones U14 team showed resiliency, by winning three straight elimination games to defeat Brantford in the semi-finals and move on to the Alliance U14 final against Elgin-Middlesex.

The Cyclones open the final on the road, playing in Komoka on Saturday. They play Game 2 in Blenheim on Sunday at noon.

The Cyclones won the final game of the best-of-five semi-final series, defeating Brantford 5-2 in Brantford on Monday night, to win the series three games to two. Andrew Beattie, Harley Hill, Brandon Jonkhans, Ryan Trahan and Josh Dethomasis scoring. Dethomasis sealed it with an empty net. Owen Proctor made some key saves in the Cyclone net to earn the win.

Game 4 was in Chatham, with the Cyclones earning a 5-1 win. Andrew Beattie had two goals, with Jaxon Kenny, Ryan Trahan and Jacob Giroux scoring single goals. Alex Brown made 16 saves to earn the win in net.

Facing elimination in Game 3, the Cyclones earned a hard-fought 4-3 win. Jacob Giroux and Jaxon Kenny scored Chatham-Kent’s first two goals. Shea Allton tied the game up with less than a minute left in overtime. Sutter Schaafsma was the overtime hero, scoring with 1:37 left in the overtime period on a breakaway. Alex Brown was the winning goalie.

Chatham-Kent lost Game 1 by a 3-2 score, with Schaafsma and Beattie scoring. Schaafsma scored the Cyclones only goal in a 2-1 Game 2 loss.
