Maple City hosting provincial junior girls’ golf championship

Maple City Country Club is hosting the Golf Ontario junior girls’ amateur championship this week.

The four-round tournament started yesterday, and will run until Thursday.

Maple City has hosted the junior girls’ amateur previously in 2014 and 2018.

Two Maple City members—Kassandra Rombouts and Haylee Crawley, are taking part in the 85 golfer field.

After the first round, Rombouts was tied for 11th place. She shot a 74 on the first day and a 76 on the second round to make the cut.

Rombouts won the girls LKSSAA golf title in 2024 and 2025. She was also the SWOSSAA regional champion in 2025.

A recent graduate of Petrolia’s Lambton Central, Rombouts will soon begin her college career at Detroit Mercy, where she will be a member of the women’s golf team.

The Florence native said she had a good first round.

“I left a few birdies out there,” Rombouts said. “I think I got a better feel of the tees to the green and the distances.”

Rombouts is familar with the course. She said the course is in great shape.

“It’s beautiful. The fairways are amazing and the greens are spectacular. It looks amazing.”

Crawley shot an 86 her first round and was tied for 83rd.

The field will be cut to the low 42 and ties after the second round.
