Negri commits to Michigan State

Blenheim’s Emma Negri has decided where she is going to continue her education and track and field career.

The 17 year-old, who competes in the discus, hammer throw and weight throw, announced her verbal commitment to Michigan State University for the next four years.

Negri made her announcement via social media last month.

“Honoured to compete in one of the best NCAA Division I conferences- The BIG 10. I want to thank both of my parents Darren Negri and Krista Negri for being my biggest support systems and the amount of sacrifices they have made for me throughout this entire process,” Negri wrote.

Negri visited a number of college track and field powerhouses before choosing Michigan State. Her social media accounts detailed trips to Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Duke, University of Nevada Las Vegas, Stanford and Eastern Michigan.

A four-time OFSAA medalist in Grade 9 and 10 at Ursuline College, Negri has spent the past two years at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. IMG Academy is a sports-orientated school.

Negri represented Ontario at Legion Nationals in 2022 and 2023, winning two gold and two bronze
