Kyra Joseph has strong start to her college softball career

Moraviantown’s Kyra Joseph has a successful opening weekend with the Lambton Lions softball team.

Joseph, in her first year at Lambton, was named Lambton College’s female athlete of the week, after she did a bit of everything at the plate, on the mound, and in the field as the Lions split their first four games of the season this past weeekend.

On the mound, Joseph made a pair of starts over the weekend, one each day. She started against Humber on Saturday in her regular season pitching debut, lasting three innings but coming away with the loss. She bounced back on Sunday against Seneca, throwing a modified complete game while allowing just one hit and striking out six.

She had a 4.00 earned run average and eight strikeouts to her credit through two appearances.

At the plate, she hit a combined .500 over the four-game stretch on opening weekend. Joseph recorded seven RBIs, five of which came at home on Sunday afternoon against the Bruins (2) and Sting (3). Against the Sting, she was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored, and she recorded her second triple of the season in the 21-2 win for the Lions.

Joseph, a five-foot-five pitcher and first baseman from Moraviantown, comes to Lambton College from Ridgetown District High School. The lefthander plays her summer softball with the Kitchener Klassics program. She has a wealth of experience in softball at different levels, and through playing for multiple programs over the years.

“I’m both excited and a bit nervous for the next chapter,” said Joseph prior to the season. “I’m looking forward to joining the Women’s Softball Program and working towards bettering myself as a softball player.”

“My hitting stands out, and so does my pitching. I’m ready to do whatever I can to help the team be successful this season.”

This past summer, Joseph was in Regina for the 2024 Canadian Native Fastball Championships with the Alexis Grizzlies.

We’re excited to welcome Kyra to our program,” said Lions head coach Gregg Shortt. “She’s a strong left-handed pitcher that will help out pitching rotation, while also giving us options in the field with her ability to play first base.”

“At the plate, her strong bat will give our offense another boost. We’re excited to see what Kyra can do with our group, alongside the rest of our newcomers and returning veterans as we prepare for the upcoming season.”

Academically, Joseph will be enrolled in the General Arts Program at Lambton College.
